Leo’s Fortune, a clever, beautiful platformer that won an Apple design award at the WWDC conference this year, is now available on Android.
Leo’s Fortune is one of the titles that Google demoed on stage at I/O last month during the Android TV segment. The title, from developer 1337 & Senri, is now available on Android for $4.99, and from our time with it, we think it’s worth it.
The game is somehow similar to another critically acclaimed title, Badland, in the sense that you control a ball-shaped character across a level dotted with traps and physics-based puzzles. But Leo’s Fortune is very much a refreshing concept that shines through its simple gameplay, high-production value, and gorgeous design.
Leo is a mustached ball of fur that one day found that his hard-earned fortune went amiss. Your task is to take Leo across the game’s 20 “handcrafted” levels and pick up as much as possible of his missing fortune in the process. The level design is very pleasing on the eye, with lush environments and smooth effects, and gameplay is simple, with two virtual joysticks letting you control movement and jumps.
Along his path, Leo will have to beat various puzzles, though some levels lean towards straight platforming. If you beat the special challenges of each level, you get to unlock a bonus level, though the challenges are not required to advance to the next level. These bonus challenges add to the replayability of the game, which can be important for a relatively expensive game (there are no in-app purchases, by the way).
To celebrate the release of Leo’s Fortune for Android, developers 1337 & Senri and partner Tilting Point released this neat Rube Goldberg trailer:
The game supports Android TV, and incorporates several Play Games services features, like Achievements and Leaderboards.
Leo’s Fortune is available in the Play Store here – stay tuned for a review.
